Forums

Spring is coming! And along with it a return to Forum by our inaugural and most popular presenter: Professor Chris O’Sullivan. His account of the history of Sonoma County promises to be equally as educational and entertaining as his history of California was in 2015.

CONTESTED EDEN:
A HISTORY OF SONOMA COUNTY

Thursdays 10 – 11:30 AM March 16 – April 20

Sonoma County occupies a stunning ecological, historical and cultural crossroads. Its natural diversity includes rugged coastline, bay wetlands, river ecosystems, redwoods, mountains and vast pasturelands. Special attention will be given to Native Americans, Spanish and Russian exploration and colonization, the Mexican era, the “Bear Flag Revolt,” the emergence of wine in the 19th century, and the transformations of the 20th century. Profi les of the most compelling historical fi gures and events will be featured, including:

  • The Russians at Fort Ross
  • Mariano Vallejo and the Sonoma Frontier
  • Wine in Sonoma County
  • Agoston Haraszthy and Buena Vista
  • Jasper O’Farrell
